Quarantreat MIS is a medical isolation studio with a hotel-grade interior and an optional negative pressure ventilation (NPV) system to control airborne pathogens. It is intended to be quickly installed as an isolation system for patients with low or asymptomatic COVID-19 infection or potential infection. The compact living area of 12.5 square meters (135 square feet) has all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay for several weeks next to the room. This includes full bathrooms with showers, furniture, HVAC with an active heat exchanger, and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities; built-in TV, computer, mini fridge and NPV options.

Two Quarantreat MIS units, designed for rapid shipment anywhere in the world, can be installed in a 40-foot cubic sea container or in the cargo hold of a C-130 cargo plane. Once delivered, the only setup required is the connection of electricity, plumbing, and an optional communications network. Multiple Quarantreat MIS installations can form a Quarantreat Park along with a central service center for catering and hospitality oversight.

Quarantreat GS is a replacement collection of Quarantreat blocks that have been adapted to be assembled into a coordinated grid system to create a medical intensive care unit (ICU). A standard network-wide NPV system monitors airborne pathogens, and the built-in IoT and smart home capabilities of each Quarantreat unit can be integrated into patient monitoring devices (not included), keeping medical teams constantly informed of the patient’s condition.

An integral part of Quarantreat’s design and performance is the use of LitePan Composite Structural Insulated Panels (C-SIP), which provide the unit’s structural integrity as well as hermetic sealing and insulation for low maintenance, climate and pressure control.
All materials used in the construction of the Quarantreat product line have passed rigorous residential safety testing. Testing covers fire safety, structural integrity and chemical emissions. LiteTex, a composite laminate of LitePan, gives the panel strength and airtightness without measurable volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, an important requirement in healthcare facilities, and the LitePan structural system has a proven performance of 0.24 air changes at 50Pa, n50[/h ], which is 4 times higher than the world’s leading German standard for passive houses.
Thanks to this tightness, the removable NPV system used in Quarantreat MIS can effectively maintain the required pressure drop while maintaining the air exchange rate in the range from 12 to 40 per hour with a noise level below 40 decibels acceptable for the library. Hospital regulations for respiratory rate exceed 12 air changes per hour.

Laminate for internal and external panel cladding ensures compliance with fire safety regulations. Quarantreat MIS boasts an R24 insulation rating, ASTM E84 “A” class flame propagation on interior and exterior wall and ceiling surfaces, ASTM E119 60-minute internal fire resistance, and an easy-to-clean antimicrobial interior coating.
Once the crisis phase of the pandemic subsides, Quarantreat could be repurposed as a modular hotel, hostel, veterans’ housing, temporary housing, or other immediate and affordable accommodation functions.
