Welcome to the latest edition of the Vent-Axia Specifications Catalog. As part of Europe’s ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency, fans above 30W are subject to the Energy Products Directive, which came into force on 1 January 2016. The regulations set minimum performance standards for a range of ventilators and ventilators under two pieces of legislation: “residential” ventilation and “non-residential” ventilation. As required by law, we review our products and update them as necessary to ensure they are compliant. In keeping with Vent-Axia’s commitment to providing the best possible solutions for our customers, we have taken this opportunity to update and improve some of our products and bring them in line with ErP regulations. We’ve also improved the way we ship some of these products, giving you more choice and flexibility in how you store and sell your products. This edition of our Specifications catalog showcases our ongoing investment in our products and services to improve and expand our already extensive range.         Legislative document F 2010 approving – Ventilation facilities The purpose of this regulation is to provide adequate ventilation facilities for people in buildings. According to the document, ventilation is “the removal of stale air from a building and its replacement with fresh outside air.” By providing fresh outside air to breathe, ventilation helps dilute and remove pollutants and reduce humidity/condensation, which together create a more comfortable environment and relieve symptoms for people with asthma and allergies. Part F is a performance-based, holistic building solution that not only specifies what needs to be achieved, but also provides guidance on how to achieve it. Pollutants in modern homes are responsible for these changes, and the types and allowable levels of pollutants are now detailed in Approved Document F Part F 2010. Nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) Carbon monoxide (CO 2 ) Total volatile compounds (TVOC) Biological emissions (odor body) In ADF 2010, the ventilation requirements for new properties refer to the entire residential building. ADF 2010 covers four systems including intermittent exhaust fans, passive chimneys, continuous mechanical exhaust ventilation (MEV) and mechanical heat recovery ventilation (MVHR). A guide is available called “Home Ventilation Compliance Guidelines”. This includes installation methods as well as signing and commissioning. Energy efficiency regulations require buildings to be better sealed and airtight. ADF 2010 has two ventilation rates based on the design permeability of the building. There is a rate for objects with a permeability of more than 5 m 3 h/m 2 (more leaky objects) and a higher ventilation rate for objects with a permeability below 5 m 3 h/m 2 (closer objects). This means that the following applies in hermetic designs: • Up to 50% increased volume of jet vents with intermittent fans • Increased MVHR No jet vents are required for MEV functions at 5 m 3 h/m 2 or higher. ventilation, which can be used to ventilate the basements of houses and replace windows. Compliance with Part F requires that the performance of the installation be in accordance with the ventilation values specified in the documentation. This means that the ventilation must be commissioned and signed by a qualified person. Noise With improved airtightness, acoustic properties are improved, reducing the amount of external noise entering our homes. However, this would make any noise generated in the building more noticeable, so in Part F the maximum noise level for the jet ventilation rate of the continuous ventilation system was set at 35 dB(A). Approval Document L 2013 – Fuel and Energy Savings These documents set minimum performance levels for ventilation efficiency and reduced system energy consumption. These regulations have brought some major changes to the ventilation industry to improve air quality and energy efficiency. SECTION L – OVERVIEW • Emission target and fabric efficiency standards aim to reduce carbon emissions by 6%. Minimum heat recovery efficiency in accordance with EN308 test standard • Target specific fan power (SFP) of 1 W/l/s for new or replacement commercial kitchen exhaust systems • Minimum energy efficiency level for all ventilation systems. New and retrofit applications for batch fans should have an SFP of less than 0.5 W/l/s.
4 As part of Europe’s ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency, since January 2016, fans over 30W are now subject to the Energy Products Directive. The legislation establishes a set of minimum performance standards for fans and ventilators under two pieces of legislation: “residential” ventilation and “non-residential” ventilation. As required by law, we review our products and update them as necessary to ensure they are compliant. Major changes mean that many products have been fitted with interchangeable motors or have been upgraded to provide speed control. However, we have made sure that the installation method does not change. Through the review, we have also taken the opportunity to streamline our product range where necessary. All relevant products in this document have been updated to comply with the ErP regulations. Please note that if a product changes due to ErP, there will be a transitional period where we move from an older model to a newer model and any stock you currently have will not be affected by this and can be sold as normal . Household products. Household products have a secondary directive requiring certain products to carry an energy efficiency label, as described below: Household Range – Small Fans Most small household fans are not subject to this law as anything below 30W is currently outside range. However, they are documented and can be found at www.vent-axia.com/erp Duet and Gemini ventilators have been delisted but are still available as replacement parts, so please contact us for more information. sales@vent-axia. MVHR and MEV Products These products are subject to legislation and will carry an energy efficiency label. There are some minimum energy efficiency requirements as well as summer bypass requirements for heat recovery models. A small number of our products have been updated to meet these requirements. The following products have been discontinued: • Kinetic E energy class products in the ErP range now require an evaluation showing their energy efficiency class. This information is referred to as the “SEC Rating” and is found on all product documentation and on energy efficiency labels. The SEC classification of a product is affected by how the product is controlled. This is called Local Demand Control (LDC) and specifies how many “sensors” the fan should have. Regulations require that a fan in a particular room, such as a bathroom fan, must have at least 1 sensor. Pipeline installations such as MEV installations require multiple sensors. These include cords/light switches or humidistats. In our literature, we show ratings where appropriate if additional LDCs are added to a product. In these cases, you will see a table similar to the one below with a title (including LDC). So you can choose the option that best suits your needs. SEC Rating Example SEC Rating (including LDC) HR200 CB 1 1 Manufacturer Name1 2 Model Name1 3 Energy Efficiency Class1 4 Maximum Flow Rate1 5 Sound Level 2016 1254/2014 dB ENERGIA ENERIA ENEPΓΕΙΑ ENERGIJA ENERGY ENERGIE m 3 /h C Vent-Axia 443028L 66 252 1 3 1 1 1 4 1 5 1 2 Energy Products Directive (ErP)
5 Non-Residential Product Range For non-residential products, minimum performance and efficiency levels are set, but there is no energy labeling requirement. Some products have been updated with new motors and speed control enabled. Non-residential premises are divided into many different categories depending on their use and functions. They can be described as follows: 1. Fan 2. One-way ventilation unit 3. Two-way ventilation unit 1. Fan These products have a simple single casing that directs air in and out of the impeller. Examples include axial flow plates and case fans. These examples are outside the scope of the law. Changing the way we sell our products The ErP regulations have given us the opportunity to review our product range and, in some cases, have allowed us to improve our inventory and the way we sell. Examples of this are the T and Standard series fans. You can now purchase the entire product or product in a modular format. The entire product can be purchased using the existing part number you used. Alternatively, you can purchase just the motor core or just the accessory kit, depending on your needs. If you are not sure about the new part number, don’t worry, we will send you the new part number. However, in some cases, you may receive more than one box.
6 2. One-way ventilation units This includes products with only one direction, with an additional housing around the fan. This is the product category that needs the most changes. The impact of energy efficiency legislation means that compliance with AC centrifugal fans with forward curved blades is nearly impossible. That’s why we use centrifugal fans with backward curved blades throughout our range of AC case fans. This means resizing the box and tweaking performance across the range. Therefore, the product lines have been updated: ACQ/ATQ QP/QPTW We have a number of product lines that have come to the end of their useful lives and we have taken this opportunity to streamline those lines and provide suitable replacement lines where possible. The following product lines are no longer available: VMD RMV GRB GDB GRD Other product lines have been enhanced to provide the solution, including: ARH – Streamlined to MFQ RBH – Streamlined to RMH 3. Double sided ventilation units. recovery, such as heat recovery. Minimum energy requirements are now set for heat recovery efficiency. Any product with an efficiency of 67% or less is not eligible. These changes did not affect either Totus 2 or the ERV-HIBOX series, but ERV-BOX products with low heat recovery efficiency have been discontinued. Minimum heat recovery efficiency 67% 67% Energy Products Directive (ErP)
7 Since ventilation was first introduced into building codes in 1992, things have moved on. Below is an overview of changes since 2006. 2006 Part F includes continuous ventilation for the first time. The ventilation system was installed by a technician, but the performance data was never verified. The change in Part L means that SAP Q products can be included in SAP residential calculations. 2010 – Design, installation and ensuring correct use. As houses are designed to be more energy efficient and less breathable, ventilation systems now require a certain flow rate and there is a growing need for efficient heat recovery to help reduce the EDR. The ventilation equipment must now be correctly installed, the installation recorded and measured, and instructions for the operation of the ventilation equipment must be provided to the occupants. 2013 – New Part L requirements mean fewer air leaks and improved sealing. These trends continue to drive efficiency gains, and the importance of installation increases as useful air leaks are further reduced. 2016 – Continued focus on decarbonization and energy efficiency in line with commitments made at the recent COP21 conference and the Paris Climate Agreement. The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the Energy Related Products Directive influence performance and ventilation efficiency standards. These drivers will continue to evolve and are expected to become standards in the future, which means an increased focus on energy efficiency. The 2019 commitment to zero-carbon buildings means possible amendments to parts F and L of the building code. As we focus our efforts on reducing energy consumption in buildings, there is an increased risk that airtight, well-insulated buildings can become a potential source of respiratory illness. Thus, the importance of a well designed and well installed system working as designed has increased. This will lead to a greater focus on competence in the installation of ventilation equipment and may lead to better training methods for installers. What you need to know • Airflow characteristics • Minimum limits for energy efficiency • Proper installation • Future direction of use by occupants

14 The launch of Svara, the UK’s first app-controlled multi-function ventilator, marks the next generation of multi-function fans. For electricians, installation is made easy with the Bluetooth-enabled Svara app, which lets you choose between intermittent or continuous ventilation, whether you want the humidistat to trigger an action, and whether you want a timeout timer. No more bulky switches and jumpers! For consumers, Svara can improve the comfort level in their home as it was designed to give families the ability to monitor their indoor air quality through an app. Aesthetics and silence Svara’s name is influenced by the Swedish heritage of the fan, a country known for its iconic and thoughtful design. Consumers will be drawn to the Svara’s beautiful appearance and sleek modern design, and coupled with noise being a major concern for consumers, families will also be impressed by the Svara’s quiet operation of just 17 dBA at low jet. It’s also easy to clean, as the central module disconnects the motor from the rest of the fan with just a wipe down with a soft cloth, and the energy-efficient Svara consumes very little power at just 4W. One size fits all Vent-Axia Svara is programmed to work with most installations. By default, the fan is set to run continuously at a low flow rate of 10 l/s. When the fan senses that someone is in the room, it increases the flow to 19 l/s. If the humidity rises quickly, for example in the shower, the fan speeds up to a maximum speed of 30 l/s. When the fan determines that the humidity level has returned to normal, it returns to a trickle of 10 l/s. If additional settings or features are required, they can be selected via the Vent-Axia Connect app, which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. FUNCTIONAL LIGHT SENSOR When the light sensor is on, the Svara senses that someone is in the room and then activates. Its sophisticated light sensor is triggered by the movement of light and shadows. You can set a turn-on delay so that the fan is not triggered by light during a quick trip to the bathroom at night. The ambient light sensor can also distinguish between car and indoor headlight flash, so it will not be triggered by passing cars, avoiding nuisance operation. The sensitivity of the light sensor can be adjusted via the app. The overtravel timer light sensor provides an overtravel timer, but requires only live and neutral wires. In homes where only main fans are installed, homeowners can upgrade to timing fans without rewiring. HumidistatSvara is equipped with a humidistat that reacts to sudden changes in humidity, such as when someone is in the shower. When set to continuous operation, after the humidity sensor is triggered, the fan will run at 30 l/s until the humidity returns to normal levels, after which the fan power is reduced to 10 l/s. Changes in ambient humidity do not trigger the humidistat. The sensitivity of the humidity sensor can be changed via the app. The Silent Schedule and Silent Schedule Auto Cycle feature allows you to deactivate enhancements on Svara through the app, which prevents, for example, noise interference at night. In addition, while on vacation, you can set the “Ventilation Weld” mode to run the “Purge” function every 12 hours, depending on your choice, for 30, 60 or 90 minutes. However, Svara’s sophisticated controls won’t work if the ambient light sensor detects someone is in the house. New Low Carb Svara • UK’s first app-controlled single ventilator! • Configuration and app control via bluetooth • Continuous or intermittent • 1 model for all applications • Silent schedule and purge mode capabilities • Smart light sensor with sleep timer – allows you to replace the base model fan • 3 speeds, IP44 rating, 5 year warranty on DC motor • Suitable for ceiling, panel or wall mounting • 17 dBA only

16 Lo-Carbon iQ • Minimalistic retro design to match your bathroom decor • Extremely quiet as low as 21 dB(A) • True surface mount with detachable faucet • Smart controls and control panel for easy and flexible setup and commissioning • Low power consumption – only 5W • Easy to clean and maintain • 5 year low carbon motor warranty • Intelligent humidistat control as standard • Innovative ventilation features ensure good air quality but also worked hard on the design. The result is a stylish fan with a deep finish that draws attention and blends with contemporary accessories in contemporary bathrooms. The visible blades give it a retro look and a very quiet fan noise level. Quiet Operation The open impeller and unique motor operation method allow for more operation options, including silent continuous ventilation as well as adaptive speed control and flexible timer functions. Humidity Control The iQ is equipped with an intelligent fully automatic humidity sensor for humidity control. This means that the fan will only learn to work when it can change the air quality in the room. Fans continuously monitor and record humidity levels to map the humidity distribution throughout the year. This process allows the fan to ensure that it only runs when the fan can reduce the moisture content of the air. This reduces unpleasant runs. The fan also has two humidity control modes, silent or boost, which can be selected using the touch panel. Control Panel Our goal is to enable the end user to control and understand the main functions of the fan without having to read the manual. When the fan is connected to a power source, it also performs a self-test, checking all status lights on the control panel and motor operation. Great for those who install to make sure everything works. Simple controls with LED indication make commissioning and any further adjustments quick and easy. LED Feedback Many fans may find it difficult to understand which mode they are operating in. We have now simplified this to provide a visual indicator of what the fan is doing and what mode it is currently in. The fan uses three different colors on the visible status indicator to communicate exactly what it is doing. Blue light means the fan is removing moisture through the humidity sensor. Yellow light means the timer is running. Purple light indicates that the fully automatic drying function is activated. You can choose how the fan works. The smart timeout timer can work in a variety of ways, either as a standard on/off switch, or as a momentary switch to automatically stop time after a timeout using a light switch, built-in cord. or a separate switch. You can easily use the control panel to set your desired post start time to 15 or 30 minutes, depending on your choice. The full surface mount impeller and motor assembly is designed to be low profile and easy to service, and the faucet on the fan is completely removable. This design allows the fan to be mounted on the wall without any fasteners, allowing for true surface mounting. This is an ideal feature if you have a duct that is less than 100mm or one that curves straight from the back of the fan without leaving any depth in the wall for a faucet. Cleaning and Maintenance To effectively ventilate the fans, it is very important to keep them clean and keep the ducts and grilles free of dust, as this can reduce the air flow through them. This is the first fan where the impeller is simply removed and the center of the fan is opened for free access to the air ducts. With the “tilt” function, you can easily clean and clean the fan, for example, a clogged grille on the outside of the facade. Press the button to remove the impeller, then press the latch and turn the motor – done!
17 Automatic air supply function The air supply function refers to an air supply program that runs for 60 minutes after the fan has been idle for 26 hours to ventilate the air in the bathroom. Never worry about stuffy, musty smells in the bathroom when you get back from vacation. 5 Year Low Carbon Warranty Thanks to the power adapter built into the fan, we can use a low voltage motor with a service life of about 60,000 hours. This is about 3-5 times longer than a standard fan. The motor has very quiet bearings. By using low voltage motors, we can significantly limit our energy consumption. The fan consumes only 5W, which is about three times less than a traditional AC bathroom fan. The model is a controlled Lo-Carbon iQ Multi fan with intermittent or continuous operation. Quiet operation and high pressure development make Response the best in its class. Vent-Axia Reactive Fan Following the introduction of the 2010 Part F of the Home Ventilation Guidelines and the requirement to check the airflow of exhaust fan installations, the Reactive Vent-Axia Fan offers the easiest installation method. The unique display (patent pending) shows the calibrated airflow and unit pressure, meaning there is no need to test the unit with airflow measurement equipment. Constant airflow technology automatically adjusts the fan speed to provide the required airflow. The Lo-Carbon Response features a new, quiet, high-pressure axial impeller that meets the requirements of many home installations without the use of traditional centrifugal fans. Axial, not centrifugal? Some centrifugal fans build pressure, but the actual airflow setting may mean that the pressure is useless because the airflow is lower than required. The use of a new low-noise, high-pressure axial impeller allows the fan not only to perform excellently in the duct, but also to do so with maximum energy efficiency. Response delivers superior pressure while being energy efficient and not wasting energy at high pressures with low air volumes. This saves up to 64% of the Specific Fan Power (SFP) of an existing centrifugal replacement of SAP PCDB data. Also, Boost will not activate if the light switch is turned on and off within 3 minutes. If the light in the bathroom turns on at night, no one else will disturb the family members.

Launched in June 2006, the SAP PCDB aims to encourage innovative manufacturers of ventilation systems by testing and listing energy efficient products that help developers meet emission targets (TER). SAP is the underlying methodology behind energy performance certifications for demonstrating compliance with residential building codes – Approval Document L (England and Wales), Section 6 (Scotland) and Approval Document F (Northern Ireland). The SAP PCDB is specific to Whole Home Ventilation systems and lists a number of Vent-Axia mechanical ventilation solutions that provide higher than default SAP ratings for these product types.

Your carbon footprint A carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) released when fossil fuels are burned. In terms of residential and commercial buildings, this is the amount of carbon you produce when you consume one kilowatt of electricity. Reducing a building’s carbon footprint will ultimately cut energy bills and save money for every home or business. It will also help you meet your UK emission reduction targets and allow you to do your part to protect the environment.         50 With the growing focus on precision room ventilation, the Lo-Carbon Multivent MVDC series offers a ‘closed control’ option for both residential and commercial applications. Using a DC motor, the multi-speed Lo-Carbon Multivent is one of the most efficient central exhaust units available. These units have two fully adjustable feed and boost speeds with real time switch (LS) activation for speed boost. Use the active connection of the second switch for an additional third speed (purge). Acoustic cladding is included as standard to ensure minimal noise levels. A potentiometer controlled speed switch precisely sets the air flow to ensure the correct ventilation speed. This feature also reduces noise and power consumption.
